Parish Worker Sabine Hillger From the light shores of the Saale to the Yarra River: my name is Sabine Hillger and I am 27 years old. Growing up in a small village of 180 people in the idyllic Saale region near the Luther town of Eisleben I was driven to go to the University of Leipzig after I had finished my VCE.A year ago I successfully finished my studies in evangelical theology and German language and literature studies. Out of a great interest to working with children and teenagers in a creative way I was able to combine the theory of my studies with a paedagocial work experience. Media education became my main work area where I produced radio programs with school classes and designed a multimedia based picture book with preschoolers. During a semester abroad at the University of Uppsala (Sweden) I met David, a Melbourne-based Australian. Since then, we got engaged and live together in Carlton. As I had started to do volunteer work at the German Lutheran Trinity Church in May 2011 - e.g. Sunday school and Children Holiday programs - I got to know the congregation. I really enjoyed the work which made me realize that I would love to support this very inviting congregation as a parish worker. I really look forward to working together with the congregation and especially to accompany and support children and teenagers on their religious pathway.
